Events - Castell Henllys Iron Age Village

There are events for all the family throughout the season from costumed guided tours, Iron Age activities for children to craft demonstrations. See below for details, dates and times for specific events.

Events at Castell Henllys

  • Over 80 activities and events take place every year, including storytelling, traditional craft workshops and experimental archaeology.
  • Living history and dramatic trails for children bring Castell Henllys alive and help visitors to understand the past in a fun and entertaining way.
  • Disadvantaged groups from the community are encouraged to join in and are actively catered for with advance notice.

Bark and Bast Workshop

Starting at 10:00 31 July and finishing at 16:00 31 July

Create your own a bark container, like those found alongside Ötzi the Iceman in the Italian Alps in 1991. Come and find out more about one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century and how bark and other plant fibres such as bast were used during prehistory to create equipment, clothing and structures.
This workshop will be led by James Dilley – an experimental archaeologist and a PhD Student at the University of Southampton, who specialises in prehistoric technology.
