Get crafty at Carew Castle this winter

A new season of hands-on workshops will bring cosy evenings of creativity to Carew Castle this November, with four opportunities to make, learn and unwind at Nest Tearoom.

Held on Tuesday evenings in the Castle’s Walled Garden, the sessions are designed for beginners and offer a relaxed way to try a new craft, with all materials, tuition, tea or coffee and homemade cake included.

The programme begins on Tuesday 3 November with a Needle-Felting Brooch Workshop, where participants will learn the basics of needle felting before creating their own hand-felted brooch in a seasonal, floral or entirely personal design.

On Tuesday 10 November, scraps of fabric will be transformed into colourful decorations during the Christmas Rag Wreath Making Workshop, with each attendee creating a wreath for a front door, festive display or handmade gift.

A week later, An Introduction to Calligraphy aims to open a window onto the medieval world. Taking place on Tuesday 17 November, the session will explore goose-feather quills, oak-gall ink, traditional lettering and the work of scribes and illuminators.

The series concludes on Tuesday 24 November with a Christmas Needle Felting Workshop, giving beginners the chance to create festive decorations for the tree or to give to friends and family.

Daisy Hughes, Manager of Carew Castle, said: “Our winter workshops are always such an enjoyable way to round off the year at Carew. They give people the chance to switch off for a couple of hours, learn something new and go home with something they’ve made themselves. This year’s programme has a lovely mix of traditional crafts and festive creativity, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people back to Nest Tearoom throughout November.”

Each workshop runs from 4.30pm-6.30pm and costs £25 per person. Sessions are suitable for ages 12 and over, spaces are limited and booking is essential.
