New funding available for community sustainability projects in Pembrokeshire

Community groups across Pembrokeshire are being invited to apply for a new round of funding to support projects that reduce carbon emissions and help tackle climate change.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) will open for applications on Friday 23 October 2026, with an additional £10,000 available thanks to a contribution from Community Energy Pembrokeshire. The money has been generated through profits from the Prouts Park wind turbine in East Williamston, helping to reinvest locally generated renewable energy income into community projects.

The announcement follows the successful completion of five SDF-funded projects, which have helped community buildings become more energy-efficient, reduce running costs and improve facilities for local people.

At St Davids City Hall, new solar panels and battery storage have enabled the building to meet virtually all its electricity needs through renewable energy since June 2026. Similar improvements at Angle Village Hall have reduced energy costs and carbon emissions, while a new solar installation at Yr Hen Ysgol Dinas achieved 99.5% energy self-sufficiency during its first week of operation.

Transition Bro Gwaun has improved its community hub with secondary glazing, a heat recovery ventilation system and better disability access, creating a warmer, more accessible space for activities including repair workshops, clothing swaps and energy advice sessions.

On Skokholm Island, improvements to the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales’ renewable energy system have increased the island’s self-sufficiency, supporting the work of resident wardens, volunteers and researchers involved in important seabird conservation and monitoring.

The latest funding round will support community-led projects that deliver measurable reductions in carbon emissions. Eligible initiatives include renewable energy installations, improvements that encourage sustainable transport, facilities that reduce waste and other community-based carbon reduction measures.

The Sustainable Development Fund is supported by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Landscapes, Sustainable Places Fund, with grants available for capital expenditure only.

Applications close at midday on Thursday 3 December 2026.
