Posted On : 30/07/2025

Visitors to Carew Castle will have a unique opportunity to explore Pembrokeshire’s rich past this summer, as the site hosts Unearthing History: Pembrokeshire’s Past on Monday 4 August.

The event will bring together artefacts, collections and experts from across the region to tell the story of how archaeology has helped uncover the history of Pembrokeshire over time. With hands-on activities, games and demonstrations, the event offers something for everyone interested in the past – whether you’re a lifelong history enthusiast or just curious about what lies beneath your feet.

Throughout the day, the Castle grounds will be filled with activity, from live demonstrations and archaeological displays to medieval-themed challenges and traditional crafts. Specialist talks from expert historians and authors will offer insights into the past, while younger visitors will be able to take part in an archaeological excavation, Knight School, Have-a-go Archery and sling-shot!

Daisy Hughes, Manager of Carew Castle, said: “This event is all about making history come alive – whether that’s through handling real artefacts, speaking to the people who study them, or trying out traditional skills and activities. It’s a chance to explore the past in a practical and engaging way in one of the most iconic historic settings in Pembrokeshire.”

Unearthing History: Pembrokeshire’s Past takes place on Monday 4 August from 10am to 4pm. Normal admission fees apply. Further information about this event and others taking place at Carew Castle throughout the summer can be found at www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/carew-castle/events-at-carew-castle
