Make something magical at Carew Castle this winter
Felted soaps, handmade decorations, and calligraphy with a medieval twist will take centre stage at Carew Castle this November, as a new season of winter workshops brings festive creativity to the Castle’s Nest Tearoom.
The sessions are designed to offer a peaceful escape from the rush – with warm drinks, beautiful surroundings, and all materials included. Whether you’re joining for the joy of making or searching for the perfect handmade gift, each workshop invites you to slow down, settle in, and try something new.
The series begins with a Felted Soap Workshop, where participants will learn how to wet-felt colourful merino wool directly onto soap, creating two textured, gift-ready soaps by hand. This workshop takes place on Tuesday 4 November, from 4.30pm-6.30pm, and is perfect for those seeking thoughtful Christmas presents or a little seasonal indulgence.
A week later, on Tuesday 11 November, guests can travel back in time during the Calligraphy Workshop – held from 4.30pm-6.30pm. Attendees will craft quills from goose feathers, grind oak galls to create medieval ink, and master the graceful art of hand lettering, ready to add a personal historical touch to their festive cards.
Creativity meets Christmas sparkle at the final session: the Christmas Needle Felting Workshop. Scheduled for Tuesday 18 November, from 4.30pm-6.30pm, this beginner-friendly session offers a chance to make beautiful handmade decorations –perfect for gifting or adding flair to your tree.
Workshops are held in Nest Tearoom in the Walled Garden and are suitable for ages 12 and up. Each workshop costs £20 per person, which includes tea or coffee. Other festive drinks and homemade seasonal treats will be available to purchase during the event. Spaces are limited, and tickets are non-refundable.
