Myth, music and make-believe this Easter at Oriel y Parc
Families can step into a world of myth, music and make-believe at Oriel y Parc: National Park Discovery Centre in St Davids this Easter, with a packed programme of seasonal activities, creative workshops and local art running from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April.
Leading the line-up is the Mythical Beasts’ Egg Quest, a magical trail inviting young adventurers to explore the woodland, courtyard and centre in search of the hidden eggs of dragons, griffins, owls and ravens. Along the way, they will need to uncover scattered musical notes left behind by the creatures of legend, reveal an enchanted melody and play the song to unlock their prize. The trail runs throughout the Easter holiday and costs £4 per child.
Hands-on fun continues with two imaginative Make & Take sessions. On Wednesday 1 April, children can create their own pinecone bird feeder to hang in the garden, while learning about some of the small birds found in the local area and making a bird spotter sheet to take home. The following Wednesday, 8 April, the focus shifts from feathered visitors to fantastical creations, with youngsters invited to make and decorate their own mystical creature before bringing it to life with flapping wings. Both sessions are drop-in activities, running from 11am to 3pm, at a cost of £4 per child.
Rachel Perkins, Manager of Oriel y Parc, said: “Oriel y Parc is a wonderful place for families to spend time together during the holidays, whether that’s getting involved in an activity, exploring the grounds or simply dropping in while visiting St Davids. This Easter’s programme has a real sense of fun and discovery, with plenty to spark children’s imaginations.”
Alongside the family activities, visitors will also be able to browse handmade craft fairs by Makers Bizarre on Tuesday 31 March and Tuesday 7 April from 10.30am to 4.30pm. With free entry, the fairs will showcase a handpicked selection of local stallholders selling handmade crafts and produce.
Art lovers can also enjoy the St Davids and Solva Art Group’s spring exhibition, which runs from Thursday 2 April to Wednesday 8 April, 10am to 4pm. The exhibition features work by local amateur artists who meet weekly in nearby Solva, with proceeds from sales going to local charities.
