Spooky season takes over Oriel y Parc this October half-term
Oriel y Parc National Park Discovery Centre in St Davids is summoning all young witches, wizards, and creative creatures for a week of frightfully fun family activities this October half-term.
Running from Saturday 18 October to Sunday 2 November, the centre will be transformed into a hive of Halloween-themed workshops, storytelling sessions, and seasonal trails, perfect for young adventurers looking to mix a little magic with their school break.
Top of the to-do list is the Witch’s Potion Trail, a self-led adventure that challenges visitors to track down hidden potion ingredients scattered across the centre’s courtyard, tower, and nearby woods. Available daily from 9.30am-4.30pm, the trail costs £4 per child and promises spooky surprises along the way.
On select days, the Discovery Room becomes a haven for creativity with a series of Make and Take Art Workshops. Budding artists can craft everything from eerie Haunting Wreaths (Saturday 18 October), and Spooky Masks (Saturday 25 October), to a Batinator Bat Headdress (Monday 27 October) and a glowing Pumpkin Suncatcher (Wednesday 29 October). Each drop-in session costs £4 per child. Timings are available on the Oriel y Parc website.
The Halloween magic continues on Wednesday 29 October with Fireside Frights & Toasty Bites, where families can gather round the firepit to toast apples, swap spooky stories, and hear wild tales from National Park rangers. Costumes are warmly encouraged – and the apples are on us!
Rachel Perkins, Manager of Oriel y Parc, said: “October is one of the most exciting times of year at Oriel y Parc – our team love creating fun, hands-on experiences that get families exploring, laughing and crafting together. Whether it’s hunting for potion ingredients or toasting apples by the fire, there’s something magical about autumn in the National Park.”
All activities are designed to be eco-friendly and suitable for a range of ages, with no pre-booking required unless stated otherwise.
