Storytelling, sea life and time-travelling tales at Park Authority’s Pembrokeshire County Show stand

A range of free activities will be on offer at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority stand at the 2026 Pembrokeshire County Show, encouraging people to learn more about the Park, its wildlife, and how everyone can do their bit to tread lightly and protect its future.

Located on the corner of Central and Main Avenues, the Park Authority’s stand (A08) will have plenty to entertain and inform people of all ages, from time-travelling storytelling and moth-themed crafts to a live sea life aquarium.

National Park Authority Head of Marketing and Communications, Marie Parkin, said: “The County Show is a wonderful chance for people to learn more about the National Park, the work that goes into it and the landscape it protects. Whether it’s through storytelling, hands-on crafts or simply having a chat with staff, we hope every visitor comes away having discovered something new.”

Bilingual storyteller Michael Harvey will host sessions on both days in the “Llinos of Lydstep” storytelling corner, where children can sit on straw bales and cushions to hear the tale of a little girl who travels through time and discovers the effects of sea level rise and climate change.

Elsewhere in the marquee, visitors can explore a moth-themed craft area with a woven willow tree, ceramic moths and a matching game, alongside a real Moth Trap on display. A Sea Trust / Ocean Lab aquarium of local sea life will also be on show, staffed by the Sea Trust team.

The stand will also promote Tirlun, a new bilingual educational resource connecting children across Wales with the country’s eight Designated Landscapes.

On the veranda, Rangers will run seashore-themed craft activities, and visitors can strike a pose for a selfie in the giant Tirlun chair, which proved hugely popular at the recent Eisteddfod y Garreg Las. The chair was created to promote Tirlun and to celebrate the Authority’s proud connection to the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las Chair, sponsored by the Authority.

For those planning their own visit to the coast, a walking information area will offer advice on the Coast Path and other routes, and beach wheelchairs will be on display outside in support of the Charitable Trust’s ongoing fundraising for the equipment. Visitors can also delve into the Park’s history, with archive film footage from the 1950s and 60s playing alongside a live demonstration of the Arfordir Penfro Lidar Portal.

The Authority will host a reception in the marquee on Wednesday 19 August, celebrating the #NNF4 Cysylltiadau Naturiol / Naturally Connected project, which brings communities and landowners together to build a more resilient landscape for nature.

The reception is one of several highlights across the two-day Show, which runs from Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 August at the County Showground, Haverfordwest.
