Developed with mothers from across Pembrokeshire, the exhibition combines portraiture, shared storytelling and collective artwork to reflect the physical, emotional and psychological transition of matrescence.
Raising Her Voice: A Collective Portrait of Motherhood by Ella Starling
This exhibition presents stories of contemporary motherhood told through portraiture, challenging the limiting cultural narratives that often oversimplify and marginalise mothers in visual culture. Created with mothers from across Pembrokeshire, the exhibition features co-created portraits, a collective artwork and supporting pieces shaped by shared storytelling, lived experiences and Mothers’ Circles. Blending art, community and wellbeing, it gives voice to matrescence – the profound physical, emotional and psychological transition of becoming a mother.
Raising Her Voice: A Collective Portrait of Motherhood will be on display at Oriel y Parc from Sunday 15 March until Monday 30 March 2026
