Pembrokeshire Craft Makers - Jane Boswell and Bluestone Bothy
Sue Lewis trading as The Bluestone Bothy has been a member of the group for several years. Sue creates a range of distinctive Preseli Bluestone jewellery which has a strong sense of place. Preseli Bluestone, also known as Preseli Spotted Dolerite, is a unique igneous rock that occurs in only one place in the entire world, Carn Meini in the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire. This particular quarry site is now protected and stones from this site can no longer be taken. The stones used in Sue’s jewellery are sourced from boulders cleared from farmland bordering this site then shaped and polished by a local lapidarist. Preseli Bluestone was used in the building of Stonehenge and those who work with crystals say it has strong healing powers, balancing and strengthening the immune system.
Jane Boswell’s paintings are expressive and semi-abstract, often incorporating collaged elements. These artworks express the joy and deep connection she feels with the coast and countryside of Pembrokeshire. Exploring both landscape and seascape through paint, she often adds elements of poetic language both within and alongside her creations. Recently, Jane has been producing a series of paintings inspired by the colours and changing weather patterns of the Preseli Hills. These small works evoke the spaciousness of the hills, and the ancient stones found there, often with the addition of the written word, in both English and Welsh.
Both Jane and Sue’s work can be seen in the Discovery Room Windows from Thursday 8 January until Wednesday 25 February 2026
