Garden Tour
12 June, 10 July & 18 September at 2.30pm

Join a free guided tour of our herb garden. Our knowledgeable guide will introduce you to our beds of culinary, dye, medicinal and fragrant herbs with fascinating insights into their uses throughout history.

Learn some of the secrets of castle construction on this free tour. Discover long forgotten building techniques and hidden architectural features.

Learn about the darker side of Castle life as you join a guided ghost walk. Our knowledgeable guide will regale you with stories of the ghosts, hauntings and happenings experienced at the Castle.

Storm the Battlements!
Daily from 19 July – 1 September

Get ready to Storm the Battlements at Carew Castle! In this thrilling self-led treasure hunt young adventurers will journey through the historic castle, crack codes, and hunt for hidden treasures as they discover the secrets of its mighty walls. A fun-filled adventure for brave explorers!

Take part using a smart phone, includes a prize. £2 per child plus normal admission fees apply.

 

FIRE! Launch of the Giant Trebuchet
22 July & 26 August at 2.30pm

Join us as we count down and launch our Giant Trebuchet, a huge medieval catapult used to attack Castles. Watch as this ingenious and powerful weapon of siege is unleashed, see the power of medieval engineering in action. Learn how huge stones were flung with enough force to breach the strongest of fortifications, other things that were flung included plagued bodies, rotting animal carcasses, and burning tar!

Bring the whole family for a fun, educational experience.

 

Medieval Merriment

Medieval Adventure Days
Every Sunday to Thursday from 22 July – 31 August
(excluding 24 July, 23 – 25 August)

Enjoy a day packed full of medieval fun for all ages. As well as demonstrating your skills as a Knight in our FREE Proving Ground trail there are loads of other activities for young squires to enjoy! Children must be accompanied by an adult for all activities.

11am Horrid Histories

Discover all the things you were never taught in history class! Gory stories, terrible tales and revolting reports about castle life in a fun, interactive talk for the younger generation.

Included FREE with normal admission.

11.30am Knight School

Join our FREE fun Knight School; learn sword fighting skills and how to intimidate the enemy! If successful you will be knighted as a defender of Carew Castle.

Included FREE with normal admission charge.

11.30am – 3pm Have-A-Go Archery

Hone your bow skills with Have-a-go Archery! Children must be accompanied.

Extra charge for archery applies, as well as normal admission charges. Pay cash to the archers or pay with card in the Castle Shop.

3pm Find the Key!

Four keys have been hidden around the Castle…but only one of the keys unlocks the treasure chest! Will you find the lucky key to open the chest and reveal your reward?

Meet your guide opposite the archery range at 3pm before they send you in search of the missing keys. Good luck!

3.30pm Knight School

Kids Rule the Castle!
24 July, 10am – 3pm

A day for young children to take over the Castle! Bring your grown-up along for a day packed full of family-friendly activities and festival vibes, focussed on the under 8’s but fun for all ages. Includes mad-cap fun and games, animal petting, traditional games, giant bubble making, archery, art and crafts and LOADS more! Don’t miss a very special visitor!

Normal admission fees apply plus small CASH charge for some activities.

 

Horrid Histories

The Storymaster’s Quests: Castle of Adventure
Every Friday and Saturday from 25 July to 30 August at 1pm
(excluding Saturday 23 August)

Join an interactive fantasy adventure featuring brand-new quests created and performed by international best-selling immersive author and games designer Oliver McNeil of The Storymaster’s Tales. Featuring the voice of Tom Baker (Doctor Who), this brilliant family fantasy show includes audience participation that will change the course and outcome of the quests.

Suitable for age 6 to adult, running time approx. one hour. Tickets £6 per person.

Open Air Theatre: The Tempest

Immersion Theatre proudly presents The Tempest; Shakespeare’s most magical play bursting with mayhem, comedy, romance, and revenge! With heaps of audience participation, this mesmerising show will be brought to life in unforgettable style, perfect for both, seasoned theatre-goers and newcomers to Shakespeare’s work. Unearthing History: Pembrokeshire’s Past
4 August 10am – 4pm

A unique opportunity to explore the rich history of Pembrokeshire and learn about the archaeological discoveries that have shaped the region over time. Visitors will have the chance to explore a wide range of artefacts and collections as well as engage with experts and enthusiasts from various fields.  With hands-on archaeology activities for children, games, talks, Knight School and Have-a-go Archery, it’s a day for everyone interested in history and archaeology.

Open Air Theatre: The Wind in the Willows
5 August, gates open 4.45pm, show starts 5.30pm

Pack your picnics and join Ratty, Mole, Badger, and the fantastically irrepressible Toad as they embark on the adventure of a lifetime culminating in a colourful battle to save Toad Hall from the mischievous weasels!

Weekend of Warriors and Weaponry
23 – 25 August, 10am – 4pm

Join an action-packed bank holiday weekend of living history, weaponry and warfare, as Historia Normannis transport Carew Castle back to the 12th century! Includes a Medieval encampment showcasing traditional skills, astounding combat and weaponry displays and Have-a-Go Archery.

Weekend included FREE with normal Castle admission fee. Small charge for some activities.
