Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive from people wanting to work for the National Park Authority.

Q. Where can I find out about any jobs available?
A. You’ll find out about our vacancies on our website and with Job Centre Plus. We sometimes advertise jobs in local papers, professional journals, jobs sites etc...

We don’t get many vacancies as people tend to stay once they get a job here! However it’s certainly worth keeping your eye on these pages as you never know, the perfect position for you may pop up!

Q. How do I know whether it’s worth me applying?
A. The job description will explain what the person getting the job will be expected to do.

The person specification tells you about the skills, knowledge and experience needed to be able to do the job. Some will be essential and some desirable.

In your application, you’ll need to set out how you match at least the essential criteria in order to be considered.
Our jobs often attract a lot of interest and we will often have applications from people who are able to match to desirable criteria as well.

It is very important that you demonstrate how your past experience has prepared you for the essential, and if possible, the desirable criteria.

Q. Can I send you my CV?
A. Please don’t send us ‘speculative’ applications/CVs as we are not able to retain these details on file. We will only consider applications sent to us for specific vacancies.

We ask that all applicants complete our application form so that we have comparable information for all applicants – so please fill in the form and only attach a CV if it gives details that you haven’t found space for on the form.

Q. Do you cater for people who are disabled and have special requirements?
A. All of our information is designed to meet DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standards and application forms are available in any format you may require.

Please contact us if you require a different format or would find different arrangements helpful.

Q. Where can I get hold of the application form?
A. Please visit the the application form download page.
Q. Can I apply on-line?
A. Sorry, we don’t have an online application process. You may download the form to complete and email it back to us.

Q. Can I use the same application for another job?
A. As each job is different, you’ll give yourself the best possible chance of success by completing an application form specific to that job. We normally advise that you complete an application for each job separately (although it makes sense to keep basic details handy such as education, previous jobs etc… so you can copy them into each application).

Q. How will I know that you have received my application?
A. We will acknowledge (by email) applications received by email, but we will not acknowledge applications received by post. However if you wish to check, please email or call 01646 624800.

Q. When will I know how I’ve done with my application?
A. Candidates invited for interview will receive the invitation by letter in the post.  However, to keep administration costs to a minimum, candidates who are not shortlisted for interview will be informed by email, if they have given an email address - otherwise if you do not hear from us within 3 weeks of the closing date please assume that your application has not been succesful.

Q. Can I claim interview expenses?
A. We normally help candidates with interview costs if the journey is longer than a normal ‘travel to work’ journey.

Q. I’ve missed the closing date – can I still apply?
A. We cannot guarantee that we’ll consider applications received after the closing date, although sometimes we will, depending on the circumstances, so it is best to ring to find out.
